Free 3D game downloads from Sony

There is really no question that 3D is the next inevitable must-have in the visual entertainment industry, it is just a matter of time, and Sony plans to speed things along.

Jack Tretton, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, told interviewers that he thinks that movies and video games in 3D are going to convince the consumer public that 3D television is the only way to go.

Tretton acknowledged that there will be some problems in making the transition, including high cost (though no suggested retail prices have been announced as yet.) Other possible hurdles are a certain amount of skepticism amongst the public regarding this new technology, not least of which is the need for special 3D glasses for viewing. He said that such peripherals mean an added cost to the consumer, therefore an added challenge in convincing them to make the initial investment.

However, Sony is confident that PlayStation buyers will be a crucial first market for 3D technology, and with that in mind they are offering free downloads on the PlayStation network.

There will be four PS3 titles available for download, including the full versions of Wipeout HD and Super Stardust HD. The offer will coincide with Sony’s UK launch of 3D enabled TVs.

Sony offer free big name games

New owners of the PSP from Sony will be able to get ten free games as a promotional effort that Sony plans to run.

Mark Howsen, the Sony Computer Entertainment UK Sales Director, stated that those who registered their PSPgo after April, 2010 are eligible to receive ten free games.

The games can be downloaded from Sony’s online Network Store. In addition to playing games, the device also allows users to play music and films or browse the internet.

Some of the titles that will be included in the free game promotion are the popular titles of Little Big Planet, Gran Turismo, Grand Theft Auto, and FIFA World Cup all of which are valued between £18 and £40.

The deal will launch officially in June with a marketing push expected from Sony at the Las Vegas Electronic Entertainment Expo which runs from June 15^th to June 17^th.

Also expected at the conference is an announcement of a new Nintendo product that will be the 3D successor to the Nintendo DS tentatively referred to as the 3DS.

Microsoft will also have a large piece of exciting news to announce in regards to its ‘Project Natal’ motion tracking control system which is thought to cost about $150US but will amount to be little more than a Wii Fit accessory.
