There is a rumour circulating that Amazon will be giving away one of its Kindle ebook reading devices to anyone who has subscribed to its Prime delivery service. It is expected that the move will boost sales figures of the Kindle products that are available on the Amazon store.
The rumour has come from Techcrunch, where Michael Arrington has said that those who pay for the Prime service, which costs about £50 a year, will receive the device. Having Prime in the UK means that when you buy any product you will get free one day shipping. The reason for the move is probably because the Prime service recently lost some of its value as Amazon announced that they will be offering free shipping for all products – although Prime subscribers will still get much faster delivery.
In the United States, those who subscribe to the Prime service generate the most revenues for Amazon. It is expected that if Amazon do go ahead with the deal then the number of people subscribing to Prime will increase substantially. According the Techcruch website, running this promotion would incite many people to buy more books from Amazon as they would no longer have to pay delivery charges.
