Prince is offering millions of his fans to get his new album for free through a promotion with the Daily Mirror.
The singer has decided not to release his new CD entitled 20Ten in music shops or releasing it for online downloading due to the fact that he wants as many people to listen to his music as possible.
Thus, instead 2.5m copies of his new ten track album will be tucked into Saturday’s Daily Mirror for free. It may be the day to pick up the paper as well since it is the only location and time that it will be available in Ireland and the UK.
His marketing decision is the current record industry buzz given that he is the first artist to release a new album via the platform of a daily newspaper.
Prince said that he is glad to be releasing the album via the Mirror adding that he is proud of the album and it will be great to offer it up to readers for free.
Following up with his new album release, he also will be giving his first newspaper interview in Britain to the Daily Mirror after ten years.
As if this is not enough, the Daily Mirror will also offer free tickets to Prince’s upcoming European concerts.
Kiran Sharma, the spokeswoman for Prince, stated that Prince was able to sell a number one single as a free artist and is thus showing that even in 2010 artists can still be innovative and independent.
