First retail bootcamp in the UK

An expo and conference is going to take place for the first time this year in the UK and it is called PCR Retail Boot Camp. Registration for the event has just opened and it is expected that the biggest dealers of IT and PCs in the UK are going to be in attendance. The event is taking place in early May at The Brewery, which is located in London.

Those retailers who attend the event are going to be given an Apple TV as part of the gift bags presented. This is a new device that allows users to stream programmes straight from the internet and also allows people to show photos and play music on it. As with many Apple products it is simple to use and very stylish.

There is no charge for attendance at the event and it is going to involve a day of conferences as well as showcases of new technology and an opportunity for people to network with other people in their industry. In the afternoon there is going to be a series of opportunities for vendors and distributors to present service and technical sessions to small groups of people.

There is also a party after the show which is going to provide additional networking opportunities for those in attendance. The entire programme of the conference is still being put together but there are already several significant people signed up to attend the event. These include Mike Harris, who is the head of independent retailer Micro-P. Carl West is also signed up to the event and is going to be presenting a talk about the future of technology.

National Smile Month 2012

Preparations are now officially underway for National Smile month 2012, the biggest ever oral health campaign in the UK. This new campaign has been kick started with the 10,000 smileys being given away, which is the official campaign symbol, and the launch of a new website to give information and assistance online.

The first 2000 organisations who are eligible to register can do so online and receive 5 free smileys as well as getting an exclusive sneak preview of the most successful oral health campaign to ever take place in the UK, which has been completely overhauled and re-branded for 2012. Jointly sponsored by Wrigley, Oral-B, Macleans and Listerine, this new campaign is set to hit the high street with a bang.

High street supporters include Argos, Aldi, Lloyds Pharmacy and Argos and they are helping to promote the key messages the campaign is trying to get across that will give you great oral health. These are the likes of brushing your teeth twice daily using fluoride toothpaste, cut down on the amount and frequency that you have sugary drinks and food, and visit your dentist regularly, at least as often as they recommend.

Simon Howell is the director of campaigns and fund raising for the British Dental Foundation and he says that after the huge success of the 2011 campaign, they consulted with health professionals, their partners and sponsors as to how they could make this years National Smile month even bigger and better.

He added that as a result of these they had announced the details of the campaign much earlier than last time and had totally re-branded the campaign to create even more opportunities for both existing and new supporters and organisations in order to help to spread the message of how to achieve great oral health.

Free House of Fraser gift cards for Tesco clubcard members

During the run up to Christmas, Tesco are giving their clubcard holders in the UK the chance to exchange £12.50 worth of clubcard points for a House of Fraser gift card worth £25.00. While some consider gift cards and vouchers to be out of fashion, gift cards are a great way for retailers to attract new customers and boost sales, so initiatives such as these are well worth it in the long run.

Up until 31^st December 2011, Tesco are inviting members of their clubcard loyalty scheme to exchange their clubcard points for tokens that can then be converted into gift cards for House of Fraser. There will be a maximum of 2,880 cards distributed, each worth £25. Successful applicants can each claim up to 3 gift cards, thus saving up to £75 on their Christmas shopping at one of the largest department stores in the UK.

“The collaboration is a bit of a coup for Tesco, given House of Fraser’s relatively up-market status and the fact that it has an existing relationship with Sainsbury’s through its membership of the competing Nectar loyalty program,” says Ruta Perveneckaite, Retail Analyst at Verdict Research. “Moreover, House of Fraser will benefit from greater footfall during and beyond the key shopping season of the year.”

The festive period represents the peak of gift cards’ annual sales, with the majority of retailers selling between 50% and 80% of all their cards in the last quarter of the year. As well as being a source of instant revenue, gift cards translate into additional sales for retailers in multiple ways. While they are never at the forefront of retailers’ promotional campaigns, gift cards have the potential to attract customers that ordinarily would not choose to shop at the retailer.

Furthermore, gift cards issued over the festive period encourage recipients to shop in January and February, a time when they may otherwise choose not to treat themselves. Depending on the value of the card they can also result in multiple visits, as some shoppers will not always spend the full value of the gift card in one go. In the case of the GBP25 House of Fraser card this is less likely, but many visitors will instead outspend the value of the gift card. A proportion of gift card recipients will of course never use them; however, in the UK retailers are permitted to retain the revenues from these card sales, providing a further reason to issue them.

“The trend of unredeemed gift cards often calls into question their attractiveness, but increased investments in their design and promotion and their gradual conversion into digital formats suggest that customers still want them,” adds Ruta. “This is something that will no doubt be evidenced by the 2,880 House of Fraser cards being snaffled up quickly by keen Clubcard members.”

Gainsborough Rotary Club free fireworks display tickets

Gainsborough Rotary Club every year hosts a popular fireworks display and bonfire and they are giving away tickets for an entire family to attend the event. The event will be taking place at Lea Park and as well as fireworks there will be drinks and food on offer. One of the food options includes a hog roast.

The history of bonfire night goes back to 1605 when a member of the Gunpowder Plot, Guy Fawkes was caught attempting to blow up the House of Lords. He was guarding the explosives that would be used and he was subsequently arrested. The bonfire night that the Rotary Club organises is taking place at 6:15 PM on 5 November. A ticket for adults is £4 and the children it’s £2.

It has been announced that this years Ideal Home Show at Christmas will take place from 16-20 November. The event, which has something for all the family will be at Earls Court in London. The announcement of this event starts the countdown to Christmas for many.

People are already planning to buy turkeys, choose the right tree, and find gifts for friends and family. People are also planning bigger DIY jobs on their home before the festive season commences. A great place to find inspiration for DIY is at this event.

A Place in the Sun, the TV home programme that airs on Channel 4, is the biggest property show in Europe for anyone interested in buying a home in a foreign country. Twice a year the presenters organize a special show called A Place in the Sun Live, where the presenters, along with various real estate experts and estate agents from all over the world showcase different properties for sale.

The latest Live show took place in Hall 2 of the NEC in Birmingham last weekend. From 30^th September thru 2^nd October the Channel 4 presenters Amanda Lamb, Jasmine Harmon and Jonnie Irwin gave interviews and met visitors to sign autographs and answer questions about the show. Ticket holders could also try out for a spot on the TV show at screen tests conducted during all three days of the exhibition.

The best part, of course, was the wealth and diversity of properties to view and analyze regarding their potential as a permanent residence or vacation home. The various offerings made it clear that the potential is enormous, and owning property abroad is not just for very wealthy folks, but quite attainable for almost anyone.

At the Fractional Pavilion, interested guests learned about the possibilities of owning a share in homes or investments abroad, in a scheme that allows part-ownership in the same property by several buyers and/or investors so that the cost is not too great for any one partner. Properties in a wide range of countries, climates and cultures were on display, from hillside villas in Portugal and Spain to seaside cottages in Greece.

On Sunday the 27^th September, Pringles will be giving people a great opportunity to see some of the sights of London by offering free rides in rickshaws around London’s West End.
