The Wales Millennium Centre (WMC) is slated to join the Tickets for Troops scheme this coming Saturday with support from the Cardiff Devils ice hockey team and the Cardiff Blues rugby team.

WMC artistic director Fiona Allan stated it is a great way to show support to UK troops and their family members.

Started in 2009, the Tickets for Troops charity offers free tickets to many musical events and major cultural sporting events to UK soldiers, airmen, sailors, and their family members.

The O2 Arena and Royal Opera House in London are already major supporters of the scheme.

Wales is also in preparation as they host the UK’s Armed Forces Day for the very first time this coming weekend.  Throughout the day, people can show their support for the troops as the troops parade down the Cardiff streets.

As part of the scheme, the WMC will offer tickets to performances of dance, musicals, and family shows such as Monty Python’s Spamalot, The Snowman, and Mamma Mia!

Allan stated that a great deal of service men and women are forced to be away from their families for lengthy periods of time and the hope is that families will be brought together while they are home so they can experience the best that the centre has to offer them.

With council run water angling under threat across the nation and a very present risk that fisheries such as Cusworth Hall in Doncaster will be taken away, the Liverpool Council is making an effort to work with the Environment Agency and anglers to improve opportunities for fishing at all of its park lakes.

However, there is always the risk of local assets such as public spaces and parks getting taken advantage of, with user groups with their own motives involved, but the Liverpool City Council has stated that with the right dialogue and support all the groups can work together.

In fact, it was dialogue between the anglers and the EA that helped the council discover the best way to start managing its water regions better so that they do not fall apart.

Derek Dottie, the Liverpool parks estate manager, stated that they knew that a lot of anglers were fishing but had not taken the time to interact with them.

He added that since they have the council has been able to see the best way to support anglers and overhaul their park strategy allowing them to see just how important it is that the waters are managed properly so that everyone can benefit.
